    1. Peter Blauner b 1959 has spent nearly his entire life in New York City After graduating from Wesleyan University he took a staff job at New York magazine, where he found the inspiration for his first book, the Edgar award winning Slow Motion Riot, in the men and women who work in the city s probation department Since then, he has written five novels Casino Moon, the New York Times bestseller The Intruder, Man of the Hour, The Last Good Day, and Slipping into Darkness.

    2. If you re tired of the cotton candy fiction that populates the bestseller lists, a book like Peter Blauner s The Intruder just might hit the spot Beautifully written, wonderfully evocative of city life, this is a thriller for the middle brow crowd and there s not many these days there doesn t seem to be a great many writers between the Jonathan Franzen side of the aisle and, say, the James Patterson. The book involves three men and a few exasperated women the book s protagonist, Jake Shiff, a New [...]

    3. Lots of Plot TwistsThe title to this book is interesting and serves as a decent introduction to the story Ostensibly, the Intruder in the story is the homeless man who fixates on Jake Schiff and determines, through his crack induced haze, that Jake Schiff has somehow stolen his family and his home But, as you read you notice that there are actually lots of intruders Jake Schiff is a Jewish lawyer from a rough Brooklyn neighborhood who doesn t quite fit in with his WASP law firm and their snooty [...]

    4. Eh, it s shallow Nothing I haven t seen before I do have to admit to a bias here, I m tired of mentally ill people being cast as the villains Right when I saw where this was going Ooooh, scary mentally ill homeless guy is terrorizing you, what would YOU do I got turned off The portrayal of the mental health professional community was off the mark, too.

    5. A great read although a little chilling.I really enjoyed this book and read it very quickly due to getting hooked from the start.I plan to read of Peter Blauner.

    6. Well written story with well crafted charactersd not much needless waffle So a quick and easy, entertaining ride. This is my first book by this author I m keen to try of his work.

    7. Stephen King recommended book Book blurb says Unputdownable My advice is to read this book In his book On Writing, published 2000, King says on pages 285 286 These are the best books I ve read over the last three or four years, the period during which I wrote The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon A Pop up Book, Hearts in Atlantis, On Writing, and the as yet unpublished From a Buick 8 In some way or other, I suspect each book in the list had an influence on the books I wrote He continues to say a good ma [...]

    8. When I read the back of this book I seen where Stephen King recommended it and I love stephen king so I grabbed it and gave it a try This book was a real page Turner, the way Peter describes urban life and the ways of a drug addict he described in perfect ways Jake just wanted John gates to leave him alone but it was the weird chimney installer Phil who was the bad guy The whole time I thought this book was called the intruder because a homeless man stalks James wife an forces himself inside but [...]

    9. from the jacket Can a good man go too far to protect his family That is the question underlying this gripping tale of a family fighting for its life, which pulls the reader into its stranglehold of terror in the tradition of Straw Dogs and Cape Fear Having survived a childhood of physical beatings and psychological torture, successful Manhattan lawyer Jacob Schiff cherishes his stable family life with his wife, Dana, a psychiatric social worker, and their teenage son, Alex But Jake sees it all u [...]

    10. Thriller Having survived a childhood of beatings and psychological torture, successful Manhattan lawyer Jacob Schiff cherishes his stable family life with his wife, Dana, a psychiatric social worker, and their teenage son, Alex But Jake sees it all unraveling when Dana s patient John Gates, a homeless man, starts stalking her and menacing the family As Gates behavior becomes even bizarre and violent, Jake is driven to the breaking point and takes a fatal step that could destroy everything he ca [...]

    11. I really liked this story of a man that has a tragic loss when his daughter dies and he blames himself His life takes a downward turn and he ends up homeless He makes a twisted connection with his social worker physcologist and imagines she is his wife and her family is his He begins to stalk her attorney husband and the situations gets out of hand It is ultimatley a story of how one decision can turn your world upside down and you may have to ask for help from the least expected The author does [...]

    12. I devoured this book s 449 pages in three days, unable to stop reading on the train, in the elevator, over dinner, and long past bedtime Peter Blauner has contructed a realistic, shocking story that explores how far a man will go to protect those he loves, and, should he fail, how far he can fall The characters are complex and believable, the situations plausible and the action non stop If you love stories that send a shiver up your spine, you must read this book.

    13. I read this book many years ago and have since read all of Blauner s other books and couldn t remember why I d always pegged it as a someday reread Now I remember This is not a heart pounding page turner the suspense is of a slow burn It s a captivating story with ironic twists, and it also pulls a little at the old heartstrings Blauner is a talented writer, and I hope he s still putting books out there, because I m ready for another.

    14. I love reading Peter Blauner because of his grip on various aspects of society and how they tend to slam up against one another in New York City He has a mastery of character structure and contrasts very different lives with each other before a character inevitably crosses the line and it is there that things explode and become something newr read annotationnation.wordpress

    15. This was a great book I thought If I m not mistaken this was Blauner s 1st novel and I really dug the narrative It almost read like you were hearing a friend of yours tell you this awesome story about a crazy aggressive neighbor who was freaking out a family It s been several years since I read it, so I can t give a full on review, but it was good.

    16. This book was not quite what I expected it to be In fact the beginning of the book is a little misleading as is, in my opinion, the title I was also a little disappointed with the end I feel there should have been a epilogue to address how the family was after the final incident Overall, not a bad story but I didn t love it.

    17. This is one of the books recommended by Stephen King in his book On Writing It is a fast paced thriller that I think is unforgettable It really illustrates the downward spiral of untreated mental illness and drug addiction This book shows a lot of compassion for misunderstood people It is also just plain fun.

    18. I liked this book This is my first novel by Blauner, but man, it exceeded my expectations I felt the ending a bit rushed, but Blauner held my attention with short, purposeful chapters, exhilarating legal action, and character development that nearly rivals Stephen King.Currently look for books by this author.

    19. I don t believe the title fit the book nor the ending Without giving away to much, I think of an Intruder as intruding in your home and not just your life The ending, such as it was, does not tie things together While quite suspenseful and a decent rrad probably would not read a 2nd time.

    20. My opinion changed several times while reading this book First, I don t think it s as scary as it s made out to be Second, mental illness is sad, plain and simple I was, for the most part, disliking the book until the end The plot twists kept my interest.

    21. This is un putdownable A nigthmare comes true with a creepy premise that make us uncomfortable, and a Charactor that scares the hell out of us because we know him It had me up until one in the morning Fast paced with rich surprising charactors An Excellant Book

    22. This book is about a homeless man and a family in New York city, who by a series of events and mistakes in judgement gets the father of this family into trouble for murder It was suspenseful, but also was annoying in that people should just mind their own business.

    23. So far, this book is knocking my socks off I m on about page 50, and the writing is just great The description is fresh I have seen so many good metaphors and images in this novel that I ve never seen used before.

    24. The first Peter Blauner book for me, and I ll read I was seeking a psycho mystery intriguing yet no brainer for a reading break I found it in Blauner Excellent book about a man who loses everything and what it does to him.

    25. brave the main character, not an easy write , insightful in the depiction of life on the streets though I wish there s been about that well written, and also a pretty good story I d recommend it.

    26. Looks basically like it was written with the movie adaptation in mind, but what the hell, we all need to get a living, don t we

    27. This book was pretty disturbing, but it made me think of the different things we do that can let scariness into our lives even when we think we are doing things for the right reasons.
