    1. Michael Guillebeau has published three novels and two anthologies His first book, JOSH WHOEVER Five Star Mysteries, 2013 was named a Debut Mystery of the Month by Library Journal. His second novel, Guillebeau has published over twenty short stories, including three in Ellery Queen s Mystery Magazine.

    2. This is a tough book to review not because I didn t love it but because I loved it so much I want to tell you everything But no spoilers here I won t deprive you of the wonderful journey of JOSH WHOEVER.From the cover Josh burned out on saving the world years ago Now he s a small time con man who wants to stay drunk in the back room of the Western World bar between scams No, Josh is no hero yet through a set of circumstances or divine guidance Josh is thrust into the case of the missing daughter [...]

    3. Does it have implausible plotlines and cartoonish characters Sure, at times Does it matter Not really, because it s fun the kind of fun that makes you willing to gloss over those details that might otherwise irritate you and just enjoy the ride Josh is a man who gets by on disguises and drunken binges so he doesn t have to face who he really is When he gets sucked into a job he doesn t want by the Russian mafia, he meets Marci, a society reporter who immediately becomes his Girl Friday Their ban [...]

    4. Looking forward to discussing this book with the author at our book club event Overall, I was really enjoying this book from the beginning then it switched gears on me at the end that I didn t like UPDATE 5 9 13 We had our book club meeting tonight, with the author present for book signings and discussion The author is very down to earth, definitely someone I would hang out and drink a beer or two with while discussing favorite authors, characters, books, etc I did like the characters in this bo [...]

    5. I received an ARC from the authorI think that what I like most about this twisty, witty crime book is that the main character, Josh, is so completely random He doesn t fit the stereotype He s real.Guillebeau could have written Josh to be Captain America without the super powers , but he wrote him to be an average guy Josh wasAmerica s poster boy but turned into the war hero disillusioned He walked away to find solace at the bottom of a bottle. The story opens with Josh running a scam just to earn [...]

    6. Library Journal said in a STARRED Review 1 1 13Josh was an army veteran, but a maneuver turned massacre cover up threw him into a hero s harsh spotlight After walking away from it all, Josh, who s been pulling scams for a living, takes refuge in the bottle and tries to stay invisible But his latest con puts him in the sights of a Russian mob family convinced that he is a private detective and the only one who can find missing reality star Kiev Romanov As Josh digs at this mystery, he is joined b [...]

    7. Okay, full disclosure, I read this in short chunks at night during a busy period at work, so that s not great for any book experience and I m sure it negatively impacted me, and I apologize to Messr Guillebeau who appears to be a author That being said, this book was one extremely messy combination of half baked, intriguing ideas and characters that led to an incredibly unsatisfying finish This was a debut novel and it showed, in the sense that there were a lot of starting points, side plots, an [...]

    8. I received an ARC from the author An accidental hero , a con artist, a liar, a drunk This is not Jack Reacher or Jason Bourne, this is Josh Whoever A man conflicted, but forced into a position to try to do right and to find his path The rapid fire dialogue and over the top characters reminded me of El Leonard or Carl Hiaasen, but I wanted I wanted to know about Josh, his affinity for disguises and his history I wanted development of the characters and depth to the story Overall, I enjoyed Jo [...]

    9. Josh is a veteran who was forced to pretend to be a hero as part of an Army cover up in the Middle East As a result he has become a drunken con man living under an assumed identity While running a scam at a bank, he unintentionally gets mixed up with the Russian mob He pretends to be a private detective and promises to rescue the mob boss s kidnapped daughter.Marci, a wanna be crime reporter, sees Josh as an avenue to a prize winning book, so she latches onto him The two fall in love Throw in a [...]

    10. Once I started readingJosh Whoever, I carried it with me everywhere I did not want to put it down The characters are unique, interesting, and at times quite unpredictable Some of the decisions they make are unexpected, which causes the story to twist and turn in directions I did not anticipate The protagonist, Josh Whoever, is an immediately likable person but a quite unlikely hero He seems simply to be an alcoholic con man, but there is much to his character He has lost himself, or perhaps he [...]

    11. This was a book that was on my recommended list from I don t think I would have picked it up otherwise I would have missed a really funny, clever, well written and thought provoking book Josh was a highly decorated military man who became a drunken con artist He accidentally finds himself in the employ of the Russian mob His assignment Find the famous daughter of the mob boss Actually, find the daughter of Mother, the one person who can touch Josh s cold heart Along the way we met Marci, an unem [...]

    12. The story had a lot of humor The character I most enjoyed is Yuri Josh, I found to be ahoot Nice snipes with Marci NObody better mess with Mother After I finished reding the story, I had to go bafk to find out where Rooster first appeared it was Chapter 9 He surfaced again at the end of the story I had an idea who it was, but was not positive TAll the characters in the story were pretty quirky. This is an easy going, fun to read, mystery.

    13. I enjoyed it A relatively short book that throws you straight into the action and reveals just enough background details to give the central character some depth and competence to carry the story through It doesn t get bogged down in the details and feels like the equivalent of a polished 90 minute action movie enjoyable popcorn entertainment.

    14. Overall I liked all the quirky characters The storyline wasn t too over the topjust enough for a book I read this book for the Madison Murder Ink book club and I am looking forward to hearing the discussion because the author will be present at our next meeting.

    15. A fun book easy to read, moved fast with lots of action Some parts were a little outlandish, but it fit the story well Overall enjoyable book
